Install Rainwater Harvesting in Every Government Building

Install Rainwater Harvesting in Every Government Building

Rainwater is often allowed to flow away during the monsoon while many communities face water shortages during dry periods. Government schools, offices, community halls, health centres and other public buildings can be used to capture and recharge rainwater. Install rainwater harvesting and groundwater-recharge systems in suitable government buildings and public spaces. Existing systems should also be inspected and maintained so they continue to work effectively. The programme can begin with government schools and offices and gradually cover other public buildings.

What success looks like

Capture and recharge rainwater, reduce wastage and support local water security. It can also reduce runoff and contribute to better monsoon water management. Current urban-flood preparedness discussions continue to highlight the importance of better drainage, water-sensitive planning and rainwater management.
